Burn's Day Lunch
Richard the Piper wasn't available on Friday so we did our Burn's celebration a bit early. Gordon dressed in his kilt and velvet jacket and was the guest of honour. He walked in as Richard played the bagpipes and then the haggis was piped in carried by Gordon's wife Patricia. Richard read the Ode to the Haggis in Scots and then we had the English translation . At the appropriate moment Gordon cut into the haggis and shared a toast of whisky.

Music for Health
We have lots of music at Woodspring House already but we thought we would try out Music for Health, which are special workshops designed for people in residential care. Wendy Mears came and did a really good session with all sorts of music from Status Quo, to Jim Reeves, classical music and ragtime. Everyone joined in singing, playing along, the quiz or just foot tapping and it was such a success that it will be a regular monthly thing. Next session is 13th Feb and FRIENDS AND RELATIVES ARE WELCOME 3.30-4.30.
Chat Club - Goodbye HMV
The sad news today was that HMV was going into administration with their trademark of the dog and the gramophone being much loved for generations. To mark the occasion Donna brought in some old HMV 78's and the wind up gramophone. Unfortunately we haven't got one with a trumpet on but John did the honours winding it up. To start with it wasn't tuneful at all (sorry Ellen) but a change of needle helped a lot.
Donna also brought in a sledge as the snow has arrived. Mary could remember being pulled along the street on a sledge and all the other kids piling on. The cold weather also brought back memories of burst pipes and snowmen. Renee had a bobble hat which she tied a scarf around to keep it on.

Happy Birthday Doreen
Doreen B. is the first birthday of the year. Terry Adams came to sing. He has a fantastic voice and a great repertoire of songs that we all knew the words to so plenty of chances for singing along and dancing. Happy Birthday Doreen.

New Year's Eve
Bagpiper Richard came to help us celebrate the New Year. It wasn't quite midnight but we still ended with a rousing Auld Lang Syne. Ken demonstrated some Scottish dancing - we'll let you know Ken! Earlier in the day Sandy brought in a puppy for a cuddle.
